Kaplan Online University Ratings

What school would you choose?

Ive decided to attend school for medical assistant. I narrowed it down to four schools. Everest, Sanford- Brown institute, Kaplan University online, and Bergen community College. I don’t know which to choose and i looked online for ratings from students themselves and pretty much every school including the ones i chose were all negative comments so i realized that no matter what school i choose it will be negative comments. If you know any online schools also i would appreciate the listing! I’m new to school searching.

Are you from NJ? Then Bergen CC is going to be your least expensive option *by far*. You literally could complete that Medical Assistant program for tens of thousands of dollars less than it would cost you at the other schools you listed. Seriously, if you can get into the program at BCC, then go!

A lot of medical assistant employers will only hire CMAs – certified medical assistants. And in order to be able to sit for the CMA exam, your school’s program must be accredited by either ABHES (the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools) or CAAHEP (the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs). If it’s not accredited by one of those two groups, you can’t sit for the CMA exam, and that can interfere with your ability to get a job. If at all possible, go to an accredited program – it’ll give you more options re: jobs afterwards. You can find all the accredited programs in NJ here:

BCC is accredited. I see that Sanford Brown in Iselin is accredited. I don’t see Everest or Kaplan listed, but you can look more closely.

I have a PHP/SQL programmer from India, Russia and Romania. What is the current rate ($/hr) I should pay him?

I contacted couple Universities with advertisement. I will pay that person directly (no agencies). I am looking at comparison which country is cheapest?

This depends on their experience with PHP and SQL. Usually the more experience they are more they gain. I suggest you perform some researchs at jobs web sites so you can have an idea about how much should you pay them.

Good luck

What can I do to actually get into a top university in 2011?

with 3 comments

What sorts of things will impress Universities and ensure I get more than one or no offers? I have lots of work experience, good grades and have a sufficient attendance and punctuality track record. Is this enough?

Can people tell me how they did or didn’t get into university and why.University application stories please. Thanks so much :)
By the way, I want to go to a University in the UK.
Thanks for stories so far, very inspiring :)

Something that’s completely vital, apart from grades of course, is your personal statement. Writing this will take up a lot of time (it took me ages to do) but once it’s done it will make a huge difference to your chances of going to The University you want.

Think of it as the only information the Universitites have about your life outside school, so write about achievements that you might have done that will put you above other students, for example managing a project or working as a team on something.

Also, make sure you get lots of different teachers to read through it. I got my English, Art, French, General Studies teacher and my Head of Year to read through mine so I could get as much feedback as I could to take on board. Even if you dont do English as an A Level, I would definatley ask the Head of Department to look over it because they are most likely to know what to write and can really help.

Finally, make sure you say how the other subjects you have studied have influenced what you want to study at Univeristy and how they have given you additional insight into your chosen subject.

I hope this has been useful :)

Does the Ranking of your University matter?

with 6 comments

The University I go to is Ok, but no where near the best, My grades are average, in a-levels I got all BBB’S, I am nearly finishing Uni, and I want to pursue a career in Psychology and I am aiming for a 2.1, degree………… BUT i am worried that when I apply for jobs they will judge me on the University i chose to go.

it depends, some potential employers may be impressed if you went to cambridge or something fancy as it takes a lot of work, others may judge this choice as being too educational or as you being priviliged and not having had to work. the same goes for a lesser known university. it could work either way so it really doesnt matter.

soooo basically, most psychology students graduate with a 2.1 regardless of uni, you just need something else to make you stand out like work experience

What are my chances of successfully transferring into Duke University?

with 2 comments

Hypothetically speaking…

…What are my chances of successfully transferring into Duke University if I never went to High School, but I earned my GED and enrolled into a community college for two years under a transfer program? Lets also say that I had a 4.0 GPA, an outstanding list of extracurricular activities, and great relationships with all the professors at this supposed community college.

You have the best chance ever…I mean if you did all that (which is what most schools are looking for) you can definitely be admitted. Now, having all these qualifications shows that you have put much effort into acquiring your goals and all that looks good in a resume!

Is California Polytechnic State University- Pomona a good university for a student aspiring to become a vet?

with one comment

I would probably major in animal sciences or something like that. Is this field of study at this University good or well-known to veterinary schools? Also what other Universities would be good for someone who wants to go to vet school? I also am considering UC-Davis, but that is way farther than Cal Poly Pomona. What would you recommend?

Are you kidding? Cal Poly Pomona is one of the best universities in California for that major. UC Davis is probably the best in the country and therefore you’ll need a 4.2 and a 1500/1600 on your SATs to go there. If you can’t get into UCD, CPP is your next best bet. They’ve got great facilities including the world famous Kellogg Arabian Horse Center. In case you haven’t also heard, the W.K. Kellogg foundation just gifted $42 million dollars to the school, the largest such gift in the entire CSU system ever. You may also consider Cal Poly SLO, but only Pomona also offer a zoology option. Cal Poly emphasizes hands on learning, so you’ll get plenty of labs working with real animals, and you won’t be learning just from books. Visit their website and visit the school. Look for the Sunday horse show, conducted the first Sunday of most months and is conducted mostly by Cal Poly Pomona students. Good luck!!
